GLF Schools

GLF Schools was founded in 2012 in order to enable the federation of Glyn School (an academy in 2011) and Danetree Junior School. Together, we began our journey to become a MAT of more than 1000 talented staff working with over 10,000 children in 40 schools across 5 regions in southern England.

SMSC

Spiritual, Moral, Social, and Cultural (SMSC)

Spiritual, Moral, Social, and Cultural (SMSC) learning provides a wider framework for developing children’s understanding of the world they live in. We aim to embed SMSC throughout the school through actions such as:

  • Clear school values which are reflected on and celebrated in class and in assemblies
  • Using real-life contexts for learning such as visits, such as the local mosque
  • Visiting speakers such as the local vicar
  • Marking cultural and international events such as the Coronation, and Olympics
  • Allowing children to explore and use real objects and materials
  • Participation in themes such as Bikeability and anti-bullying in order to develop children’s understanding of important aspects and issues.
  • Learning about the differences between us, our families, abilities, beliefs, and celebrations.
  • School Council elected by their classes, who are involved in decision-making such as interviews.
  • School rules with rewards and sanctions to develop an understanding of right and wrong and taking responsibility.
  • A Year 6 residential trip that encourages working both collaboratively and independently.
  • Understanding the broader cultural context when learning French.
  • Participation in charity days such as food banks and Comic Relief.
